The best crypto index funds in 2026 depend on what you value most: Wealtii's three funds start at $10 with no management fee, and two of them mix crypto with tokenized gold and US stocks; Franklin's EZPZ (0.19%) and Hashdex's NCIQ (0.25%) are the lowest-fee US ETFs; Bitwise's BITW holds ten coins; Grayscale's GDLC holds five.

Disclosure: Wealtii operates one of the products compared here. Competitor figures come from issuer websites and SEC filings and are dated; our ranking criteria are explained below. Wealtii is not registered or licensed with any financial regulator, and its funds do not have the investor protections that US-listed ETFs offer.

How did we rank the best crypto index funds?

We compared six ways to buy a crypto basket in one transaction: four US-listed ETFs, one European broker basket and Wealtii's funds. For background, see our guide to how crypto index funds work. Each product was assessed on:

  • Total cost: the annual sponsor or management fee plus any provider trading premium (commissions, spreads, network fees and price impact vary, so they are excluded).
  • Minimum investment: the smallest first purchase.
  • Diversification: number of holdings and asset classes, and the weight of the largest holding.
  • Transparency: how often holdings are published and whether you can check them yourself.
  • Investor protection: SEC registration, third-party custodians and broker-level protection.
  • Access: trading hours, account types and US availability.

We gave cost, minimum and diversification the most weight because they matter most to someone investing small amounts long term, which is why Wealtii ranks first. On investor protection Wealtii ranks last, so if protection matters most to you, rank the ETFs higher. Figures were checked on 21 October 2026; holdings dates differ because issuers publish on different schedules.

Why does Wealtii rank first, and what are the trade-offs?

Wealtii runs three funds on BNB Smart Chain: the Digital Asset Core Index Fund (crypto only), the Tech & Digital Asset Growth Fund and the Multi-Asset Balanced Allocation Fund. Compared with the other products in this list, Wealtii's advantages are:

  • A $10 minimum. The smallest purchase is 10 USDT, and each purchase buys every holding at its target weight.
  • No management fee. There is no management or performance fee, and platform fees are 0% during the early-adopter promotion. Network fees (typically under $0.50) and price impact apply, and any future fee would come with at least 30 days' notice; see Wealtii's full fee schedule.
  • More than crypto. Growth and Balanced hold tokenized gold (Tether Gold, XAUT) and tokenized US stocks and ETFs (Ondo Global Markets tokens) alongside crypto. None of the four ETFs holds gold or equities.
  • Less Bitcoin concentration. Wealtii uses fixed target allocations with position caps, not market-capitalisation weights. The Core fund targets 33.9% Bitcoin; Bitcoin makes up 74% to 78% of the four ETFs in their latest disclosures.
  • A publicly verifiable vault. User fund assets are held 1:1 in a 3-of-3 Gnosis Safe multi-signature vault whose address anyone can look up; our step-by-step reserve check on BscScan shows how.
  • 24/7 access and no lock-up. Buy and sell at any time, with no lock-up or exit penalty; withdrawals are paid in USDT to a BEP-20 wallet.

The trade-offs are significant. Wealtii is operated by its founder and is working towards formal company registration. It is not regulated, and there is no deposit insurance, investor-compensation scheme or third-party security audit yet; read Wealtii's regulatory status before investing. A lower Bitcoin weight means more exposure to smaller, often more volatile tokens. Wrapped and tokenized holdings such as BTCB, XAUT and Ondo tokens depend on their issuers. Automated rebalancing is still in development, and Growth and Balanced may not be available in the United States because Ondo restricts its tokenized stocks for US persons. To choose between the three, compare the Wealtii funds side by side.

How do the four US crypto index ETFs differ?

Franklin Crypto Index ETF (EZPZ)

EZPZ charges a 0.19% annual sponsor fee, the lowest of the four. It tracks the CF Institutional Digital Asset Index – US – Settlement Price, weighted by free-float market capitalisation. On 30 June 2026 the index held Bitcoin 78.43%, Ether 10.95%, XRP 5.47%, Solana 3.42%, Dogecoin 0.85%, Cardano 0.47% and Stellar 0.41%. Coinbase Custody holds the fund's crypto.

Hashdex Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF (NCIQ)

NCIQ's management fee is 0.25% a year, cut from 0.50% on 16 March 2026. It tracks the Nasdaq CME Crypto Settlement Price Index, reconstituted quarterly. After the 1 September 2026 reconstitution, estimated weights were Bitcoin 74.36%, Ether 11.88%, XRP 5.21%, Solana 3.79% and Hyperliquid 3.36%, with Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar and Bitcoin Cash each under 0.5%. Custodians are Coinbase Custody, BitGo and Fidelity.

Bitwise 10 Crypto Index ETF (BITW)

BITW has the longest history here: the fund dates from November 2017 and began trading on NYSE Arca on 9 December 2025. It charges a 0.75% sponsor fee and tracks the Bitwise 10 Large Cap Crypto Index, which applies risk screens and is re-evaluated monthly. On 19 October 2026 it held Bitcoin 76.48%, Ether 13.73%, XRP 3.88% and Solana 2.87%, plus six coins under 1% each. Custodians are Coinbase Custody and Anchorage Digital Bank.

Grayscale CoinDesk Crypto 5 ETF (GDLC)

GDLC holds the five assets in the CoinDesk 5 Index and rebalances quarterly. Its fee fell from 2.5% to 0.59% when it began trading on NYSE Arca on 19 September 2025. After its August 2026 rebalancing it held Bitcoin, Ether, BNB, XRP and Solana, with Bitcoin at about 75.54% and Ether 13.30% on 3 August 2026. Coinbase Custody is the primary custodian, with Anchorage Digital added in October 2026.

What about a crypto basket from a broker?

The Bitpanda Crypto Index is not an ETF: with BCI5, BCI10 or BCI25 you hold the underlying coins in your Bitpanda account. MarketVector Indexes (part of VanEck) sets the components and Bitpanda rebalances monthly; BCI5 holds Bitcoin, Ether, BNB, XRP and Solana. Bitpanda charges a 1.99% premium on every buy, sell or swap and on the amount rebalanced each month, with no custody fee. The minimum transaction is €10, and the United States is not a supported country.

How much do these fees cost on a $1,000 investment?

Using each provider's published fee, this is the cost of holding $1,000 for a year before commissions, spreads, network fees or price impact:

  • Wealtii: $0 management fee and 0% platform fees during the promotion; network fees are typically under $0.50 per on-chain transaction.
  • EZPZ: about $1.90.
  • NCIQ: about $2.50.
  • GDLC: about $5.90.
  • BITW: about $7.50.
  • Bitpanda BCI: about $19.90 on the purchase, plus 1.99% of amounts rebalanced.

Wealtii's 0% platform fee is a promotional rate, and ETF buyers also pay any commission and the bid-ask spread.

Which crypto index fund is best for you?

  • Small amounts and a multi-asset mix: Wealtii (Core for crypto only; Growth or Balanced to add tokenized gold and stocks).
  • Lowest ongoing fee in a US ETF: Franklin Crypto Index ETF (EZPZ).
  • Low fee with a slightly wider basket: Hashdex Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF (NCIQ).
  • Broadest ETF basket with monthly reviews: Bitwise 10 Crypto Index ETF (BITW).
  • Large caps only, in an ETF: Grayscale CoinDesk Crypto 5 ETF (GDLC).
  • Owning the coins through a European broker: Bitpanda Crypto Index.

When may a crypto index ETF suit you better than Wealtii?

  • You want an SEC-registered, exchange-listed product. The four ETFs trade on regulated US exchanges, register their share offerings with the SEC and file annual (10-K) and quarterly (10-Q) reports. They are not 1940 Act funds, but Wealtii has no registration with any regulator.
  • You want a tax-advantaged account. ETF shares can be held in an ordinary brokerage account and, at many brokers, in retirement accounts such as IRAs. Wealtii accounts cannot be held inside an IRA, ISA or similar wrapper.
  • You want broker-level protection. If a SIPC-member brokerage fails, SIPC works to restore missing securities and cash up to $500,000, including $250,000 for cash. SIPC does not cover market losses. Wealtii offers no deposit insurance or compensation scheme.
  • You prefer third-party custodians. The ETFs use named custodians such as Coinbase Custody. Wealtii's vault has not yet had a third-party security audit.
  • You want weights that follow the market. A market-capitalisation index tracks the market's own weights by design; Wealtii's fixed target allocations do not.
  • You do not want to handle stablecoins. ETFs are bought with dollars; Wealtii requires USDT on BNB Smart Chain, sent directly or bought through a third-party on-ramp.
